September 14-18 Assignments and Update

What have grade 3 students done this week?
Grade 3 had another successful week.
Math – Estimations and number sequencing (greater than and less than)
Science – A chicken egg experiment as we continue to study life cycles
Social Studies – Completed decorating their “Me Box”
Language Arts – A timeline of significant events in their life and a story about one of those. Students also strengthened their reading comprehension skills as they “paired” read about the life cycle of various animals
Back to School Night is Tomorrow:
We hope to see all parents at our “Back to School Night” tomorrow, September 15th from 6:45 to 9:00 p.m. Your child is excited that you are attending and they have even written you a note that will be found on their homeroom desk. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet all of your child’s teachers and to learn more about their school days. We look forward to seeing you then.

This week we learned some vocabulary used in writing greeting cards for the Jewish New Year.
We created some greeting cards for friends in the class, and sent them out using our school mail box.
We discussed different greetings for other occasions and practiced them. We learned one way to learn new vocabulary,
and practiced it in class as a preparation to for a new story about Rosh Hashana.
Have a good week.

G3 have been having fun in music; we’ve been listening to music from around Asia and trying to guess where the music comes from. What makes the music sound Chinese, Indian or Malaysian? They have been learning about different rhythms and how they make different patterns; how percussion instruments make their sounds and why they are called percussion and how we can fit different rhythms together to create our ostinato just for Grade 3.
